Bethlehem Fire Department officials are exploring ways to fill two empty slots for fire inspectors and offset the impact of a temporary vacancy in a third inspector's post.

The city budget allows for four full-time inspectors, but the department had been operating with only two after firefighters who held the positions returned to regular duty late last year and then in February, said Deputy Fire Commissioner Eugene Novak.
