A gas fire in Overton County outside of Livingston led to the evacuation of nearby residents, including an area elementary school.

The fire has since been extinguished and the evacuation has ended.

Local emergency management officials say that around 12:30 pm Tuesday, a resident on Rickman Road smelled gas and then saw the blaze. Shortly afterward, residents within a one-mile radius of the fire were evacuated. Authorities now say that the area is safe and that people can return to their homes.
