Someone set a small fire under the trailer -- which is the temporary home of the fire department -- around 4:40 a.m., according to Sturgis Police Chief Gene Wilson.
A passerby spotted the fire and alerted Freddy Cullen, a firefighter, who was asleep in the trailer. Cullen extinguished the fire, state police said. He was not injured.
The Sturgis Fire Department relocated to that trailer in March after a fire destroyed Sturgis City Hall and caused severe smoke damage to the fire department.
The trailer, located on Sixth Street, sustained minor damage, Wilson said. Authorities are investing an arson that occurred at the Sturgis Fire Department early Monday morning.

Whoever set the fire could be charged with first-degree arson, which carries a penalty of 20 years to life in prison, he said.
The arson wasn't the only crime committed in Sturgis Monday morning.
Wilson said about nine vehicles were spray painted and a tombstone was stolen from a business that sells the markers.
Police say they aren't certain whether the incidents are related.
"We would assume with that much activity they would be related," Wilson said. "But we can't say for sure."
He said information about the arson has been coming in and authorities are following every lead.
Anyone with information about this case can call the Sturgis Police Department at 270-333-2166 or the Kentucky State Police at 826-3312.
