NEW YORK (AP) -- A ceiling transformer at Grand Central Terminal fell on an empty train Wednesday night, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

The 10-by-20-foot transformer struck tracks and the parked commuter train, a fire department spokesman said. It was not immediately known what caused the transformer to fall.

Stationmaster Rob Angus said no commuters were in the area at the time.

The track, one of 48 at the terminal, was shut down. But officials said no train departures or arrivals were affected.

The terminal, a beaux-arts landmark in midtown Manhattan, is one of the nation's busiest transit hubs and a tourist attraction.
