Dozens of families are now homeless after a devastating four-alarm fire in Brooklyn.

Having to worrying about Hurricane Isabel is stressful enough, but now 46 people must worry about where they are going to live. They have lost their homes and everything else that they own after a fire ripped through their building Wednesday night in Brighton Beach.

In just minutes the fire went to four alarms. It tore through several popular Boardwalk restaurants. Then it pushed back into an apartment building filled with mostly Russian tenants. They poured out onto the street hugging each other as more than two hundred firefighters battled to keep the flames from spreading.

Firefighters got one break that proved decisive. Instead of a wind blowing in from the ocean and fueling the fire, the wind last night blew toward the water working for the firefighters.

At least 19 people were injured from this blaze and most of them were firefighters. However, none of the injuries are considered live threatening.

The owner of one of the restaurants that was destroyed by the fire believes that some homeless people hanging out under the boardwalk started this fire. Fire officials say the exact cause of this fire is under investigation.
