Antonio Bared Named Interim Miami-Dade, Florida Fire Chief

Miami-Dade County Manager GeorgeBurgess announced yesterday that Chief Antonio Bared will oversee the Miami-Dade Fire Department as Director. It is only an interim position until the Miami-Dade Fire Department locates someone to fill a permanent position.

"It has always been an honor to serve this department that has such a fine tradition and reputation," said Chief Bared. "It is now my duty to see to it that the department continues to provide the highest level of service to our community."

Chief Bared is a 29-year veteran of MDFR, who has risen through the ranks of the department from firefighter to Chief Fire Officer. A state-certified paramedic, who also is certified by the FAA in Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting, has worked in Operations for 19 years. He attained the rank of Division Chief in 1993, overseeing Airport firefighting operations. He most recently served the department as Deputy Fire Chief for Administration. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati in Fire Service Technology and Engineering.

Chief Bared is a 49-year resident of Miami-Dade County. He and his wife, Mary have two children. Their son, Anthony, attends Medical School at the University of Miami, and their daughter, Kristia attends Emory Law School.
