A freak accident in Sussex County, New Jersey. Two people were killed when part of a tree fell on their car in the small town of Walpack Township.
It's the second accident like this in several days.
All that remains of the tree now is a rotted-out stump. The trouble started Sunday when two women and a girl were travelling in a car southbound on Route 615.
Talk about wrong place, wrong time -- just as they were passing by, the tree came crashing down on the right side of their car. The accident killed the 42-year-old passenger and her 9-year-old daughter, who was sitting in the back seat.
The tree has since been removed, but before that we were able to get a look at it and see shards of glass embedded in it. We also had a glimpse of the car as it was being hauled away, and it was completely smashed in on one side.
Despite the weather, police in Sussex County are saying this is not weather-related. It was a rotted-out tree and this was a freak accident.
