BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Iraqis fired weapons in the air to celebrate the return of electricity to a central Baghdad neighborhood Thursday, hitting a large propane tank and causing an explosion that injured several people, Associated Press Television News reported.
Red Iraqi fire trucks arrived to douse the flames that leapt from two large tanks surrounded by charred cars. Red Crescent medics used stretchers to carry the injured to ambulances.
American soldiers who arrived on tanks held back an angry crowd complaining the troops didn't do enough to help those injured by the explosion near the central railroad station.
It wasn't clear how many people were injured or the extent of their injuries.
