DALLAS -- Fire investigators return Thursday to Dallas National Golf Club, where Dallas Fire Rescue called in dozens of crews to fight an inferno at the construction site of its clubhouse.

The 2,500-square-foot clubhouse on the 18th green was under construction. It was scheduled to open in September, but now owners say it will take months to rebuild.

Flames broke out about 9 p.m. Wednesday and burned for about an hour.

The exclusive club in the 1500 block of Knoxville in south Dallas opened less than a year ago and only has 350 members.

The high-profile roster includes Texas Rangers shortstop Alex Rodriguez, Rangers and Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks and former Dallas Cowboy Roger Staubach.

Firefighters were delayed in getting to the blaze because the club is so new, and they weren't sure how to get into the golf course. Once they found a way in, the equipment was quickly moved in, but by that time, the clubhouse was entirely engulfed.

There were no reported injuries in the three-alarm fire.

Golf course executives were planning to bring PGA events to the course. Memberships at the club cost $200,000.
