YORK, Maine - David N. Hilton, 42, of Camden Avenue, husband of Diane C. (Treamer) Hilton, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, N.H.
He was born in York on Nov. 17, 1960, son of Alva A. and Janet H. (Hutchins) Hilton. He graduated from York High School.
Mr. Hilton owned and operated a business along with his wife, called DNH Collectibles. He sold old bottles, post cards and ephemera, and was very knowledgeable about old bottles and their value.
He was responsible for getting fire towers in the area operational and staffed by volunteers after they were closed by the state. He, himself, spent many hours manning the tower on the summit of Mount Agamenticus in dry times, in order to detect fires. This was a service that was very dear to his heart. He was the author of a book titled "From York to the Allagash - Forest Fire Lookouts of Maine."
Mr. Hilton served actively on the York Fire Department from 1979 to 2003. He served as firefighter, lieutenant and driver (or, as he would say, "motor pump operator"). Mr. Hilton spent many hours volunteering for the Fire Department, dedicating his time with the rehab, weekly fire log and fire lookout tower. He was most known for making sure the second pump got out of the station. His memory and spirit will always be in the Village Fire Station and Engine 4.
Mr. Hilton was president and vice president of Southern Maine Fire Notification Association, which he co-founded with a friend, Rick Plummer. It
