Tankers explode in Holland Township, MI

Four oil tanker trucks were involved in a fire at the Brenner Oil Company at the intersection of Quincy and U.S. 31 in Holland Township.

Holland Township -- Four oil tanker trucks were involved in a fire at the Brenner Oil Company at the intersection of Quincy and U.S. 31 in Holland Township.

The explosions occurred around 7:30 this morning. Bill Smith, Ottawa County Emergency Management Director, says four people received minor injuries. Two firefighters are being treated at Holland Community Hospital for smoke inhalation, another for skin irritation. Smith says a Brenner Oil employee also suffered minor injuries, there's no word on what caused that injury.

Fire crews from Holland, Holland Township, Grand Haven, and Zeeland battled the blaze, using foam to extinguish the flames The flames did reach a nearby warehouse. Crews have contained both fires.

The cause of the explosion is yet unknown. Officials from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and MIOSHA are on the scene.

Just before 11:00 this morning, police reopened John F. Donnelly Drive, which was closed for several hours because of the fire.
