Engine 241 sped to the pier at 58th Street and First Avenue at 7:45 p.m., and Lt. Robert Knoop dived in and grabbed the man.

Firefighter Tom Feeney threw a life ring to the two - then six firemen pulled their boss and the victim to safety. Firefighter Steven Dempsey jumped in the drink to give them a hand.
