A fast-moving house fire killed a father and his two young sons early Friday after the man tried to rescue the boys from an upstairs room.

The blaze broke out in the home at 284 Eccleston Place just before midnight, and was brought under control about 45 minutes later, authorities said. The victims were found together in the room and taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead a short time later.

The father, 46-year-old Neal Quigg, died with his 7 and 8-year-old sons Christopher and Patrick. The boys' 42-year-old mother, Anne Quigg, was found on the porch. She was injured in the blaze, but made it to a phone to call 911 for help. She is hospitalized in fair condition with unspecified injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
