TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) _ Fire swept through a home that had been converted to a residential care facility for six patients, killing two residents and injuring four others, authorities said. The fire broke out shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, said Fire Capt. Leigh McArthur.
About 30 firefighters contained the blaze in the single-story building within minutes, but two of the residents were found dead in the facility's back bedroom. Their identities were not immediately released.
Paramedics transported four people to the hospital, including one who was in critical condition after suffering second- and third-degree burns, McArthur said. The other three patients suffered only minor injuries, he said.
Arson investigators believe the fire may have been caused by a space heater, he said.
Torrance is about 15 miles south of Los Angeles.
