WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Maryland company is recalling about 1.7 million boxes of bamboo stick sparklers after at least two children were burned.

Elkton Sparkler Company Inc., of North East, Md., received four reports of injuries and clothes catching on fire, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

A 6-year-old girl received second-degree burns on her ankle and a 3-year-old boy was injured when his sweat pants ignited.

The sparklers, sold nationwide from January to May, measure eight to 20 inches long and come in three models: SP08, SP14 AND SP20. They were sold in packs of six in red, white and blue boxes for $2 to $5.

The government advised consumers to stop using the sparklers and return them to the store for a refund. For more information, consumers can call the company at 1-800-322-3458, weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST.
