POSTED: 10:29 a.m. EST November 13, 2002 UPDATED: 10:29 a.m. EST November 13, 2002Story by West Palm Beach Channel -- "Life Star", Martin County's emergency medical helicopter ran into a group of vultures while on its way back from transporting a patient.

An emergency medical technician was struck by one of the birds and received minor injuries.

The helicopter, which is actually a back-up aircraft, was forced to make an emergency landing due to damages and will remain grounded until repairs can be completed.

"We're obviously going to be out of service for a day....our primary bird will be back from maintenance tomorrow, so we may be out of service less than a day", said Joe Ferrara of the Martin County Fire Rescue.

In the meantime, if an emergency air transport is needed the county can request help from another agency.
