Bystanders Rescue Two From Their Flaming Car

This is the burned shell of a Ford Thunderbird from which two men were rescued late Saturday night by bystanders before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Trooper Scott Williams said the accident occurred about 11:45 p.m. when a vehicle being driven east on the 107 Cutoff failed to stop at the intersection with the Erwin Highway (Hwy. 107), catapulted into a field, and burst into flames.
Two men narrowly escaped death in a fiery car crash late Saturday night at the intersection of the Erwin Highway and the 107 Cutoff.
Trooper Scott Williams, who investigated the accident for the Tennessee Highway Patrol, said it occurred about 11:45 p.m. Saturday when a Ford Thunderbird being driven east on the 107 Cutoff at an apparent high rate of speed failed to stop at the intersection with the Erwin Highway (Tennessee Rt. 107), crossed that highway, and catapulted into a field.
The heavily damaged car burst into flames after coming to rest more than 30 yards north of the Erwin Highway.
Trooper Williams credited bystanders with rescuing the two injured men from the burning car.
