WASHINGTON (AP) -- Oregon Rep. David Wu's wife and two children escaped without injury from a fire at the family's Capitol Hill town house Tuesday night. The fire was caused by a cardboard box that was left too close to a furnace, said Alan Etter, a spokesman for the District of Columbia's Fire and Emergency Medical Service. Wu was not home at the time, but his wife, Michelle, and their two young children escaped to a neighbor's home, Etter said. Firefighters quickly put out the flames but damage was extensive, Etter said. Wu, a Democrat, was elected to a third term in November.
