WASHINGTON -- The feds will set aside $90 million to pay for health screening for hundreds of firefighters and other heroes who rushed to Ground Zero after 9/11, officials said yesterday. The funding should insure that Mount Sinai and other hospitals can study and track the long-term health of scores of first responders - some of whom are beginning to report lung and breathing woes they attribute to Ground Zero.

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) secured the money after battling with the White House last summer and telephoning one of President Bush's top advisers last month to force the issue.
