Fire Fatality Reported After Early Morning Des Moines, IA Fire

Firefighters responded to an early morning 911 call that reported the neighbor's house on fire.
Firefighters responded to an early morning 911 call that reported the neighbor's house on fire. The caller also reported a victim likely still inside.

Firefighters responded to 1368 E 13th Street, Des Moines, Iowa at 5:13 AM. First arriving units reported smoke and visible flames coming from several second floor windows. Firefighters quickly made entry into the home, searching for a victim and attempting to extinguish the fire.

The victim was found in an upstairs bathroom, behind a closed door. Life saving measures were administered immediately. Fire Medics transported the victim to Mercy Hospital. The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

At the residence firefighters found and extinguished the fire in an upstairs bedroom. Smoke and heat damage had spread throughout the home.

Fire Investigators were called to the scene. An exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Damages to the home are estimated at $40,000.

No firefighter injuries have been reported.
