Nashville district Fire Chief Bobby Connelly said as soon as he saw flames raging in a 2nd floor room of the NHC Nashville Health Care Center he knew it was bad.

His mother, Thelma Connelly, 96, was a patient in the next room.

She was one of nine patients who died in the fire.

The chief said he's not angry at NHC or the fact that the nursing home had not installed a sprinkler system.
