Firefighter George Walker, 61, was working a structure fire December 15 when he was stricken. He had been hospitalized and combating a series of strokes. According to Deputy Chief Charles Hollis Walker had been placed in a nursing home prior to losing the battle.

Walker, a 31-year veteran of the department, had three daughters and two sons along with eleven grandchildren. Hollis said he had been eligible for retirement,
