A large air conditioning unit on top of a former textile mill in Turnersburg caught fire Thursday evening, sending flames several feet into the air before it was brought under control.
Firefighters from every department in northern Iredell County and several others from across the county responded to the former Gullistan Carpet facility on Turnersburg Highway Thursday afternoon.
Several firefighters who responded to the blaze said flames were visible from Harmony.
The building has been vacant for a few years.
Firefighters from Harmony, Union Grove, Ebenezer, Central, Trinity, Cool Springs, County Line, Sheffield-Calahaln, Troutman and Statesville fire departments all responded to the scene.
No one was injured in the blaze and most of the damage was contained to the large air conditioning unit and the roof of the building.
The cause has not been determined.
