A blaze at a Vermont construction company lit up the sky Friday night.

The DuBois Construction office and shop on Three Mile Bridge Road in Middlesex housed numerous trucks and heavy machinery, according to the Times Argus.

Numerous fire companies from Middlesex and other areas were called to assist.

There was no one in the building when the fire erupted, the paper reported.

Water was being pumped from the Winooski River into waiting tankers near the Dairy Creme on lower State Street in Montpelier, then trucked to the site.

Fireifighters took advantage of the equipment on hand and used one of the excavators to tear through a burning exterior wall and pulled a large safe from the fire.

Lt. Gov. Phil Scott, a co-owner of the business, was at the scene, the paper reported.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
