FORT COLLINS, Colo.
A cow rescue was under way near Fort Collins Friday evening, after the animal's owner spent five hours trying on her own trying to get the cow out of a small lake.
Poudre Fire Authority spokesman Patrick Love said firefighters were setting up several haul systems with ropes in an effort to pull the pet cow from Island Lake Marina, on the west side of Interstate 25 near Ketcher Road.
The cow, named T-bone, got stuck in the partially frozen lake on Friday morning.
Love said firefighters were on the I-25 service road next to the small lake and were cutting down trees on the lake bank in an effort to gain better access to the 14-year-old Hereford.
It is hoped the fire department haul systems will be able to rescue the female cow, one way or the udder.
