One Fairmont firefighter was injured and another fell ill while battling a blaze at a city home Monday morning.

Lt. Roy Parker said firefighters were called to 1104 Fourth St., in Fairmont at about 4:25 a.m. Monday. He said the structure was "pretty well involved" when they arrived on scene and was completely destroyed by the blaze.

No one was inside at the time of the fire, but Parker said they were still sorting out if anyone lived in the house.

The firefighter who was injured scratched his eye as he slipped and fell when the house's porch gave away, Parker said. He was treated and released from Fairmont General Hospital on Monday.

The other firefighter, who became ill while fighting the fire, did not go immediately to the hospital, Parker said. He declined to provide their names Monday but, instead, referred the question to the fire chief who did not respond in time for this report.

The state fire marshal's office was called in to assist in the investigation. No additional information was available Monday.
