Jan. 10--A boy and a teenage girl were killed and a woman critically injured in a fire that swept through an apartment above a beauty shop in Tacony this morning.

Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said arriving firefighters were initially told no one was in the building on the 6800 block of Torresdale Avenue, delaying a search.

But a few minutes later, they were informed people were inside the apartment above the shop.

Ayers also said there was only one way out of the apartment.

Fire Department Executive Chief Richard Davison said a female teenager and a boy were pronounced dead at the scene. He would not provide their ages.

A woman was taken to Aria Health Center's Torresdale hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

The relationship between the victims has not been spelled out yet.

Fire marshals are trying to determine the cause of the fire, which was reported about 4:44 a.m. and declared under control at 5:37 a.m.
