San Jose firefighters responded to four fires in a span of 24 hours, including a one-alarm blaze Thursday morning that destroyed a detached garage and killed a family's pet rabbit.

No one was injured in any of the four fires, and fire officials have indicated that at least three are believed to be accidental.

The most recent fire was reported at 9:52 a.m. Thursday after a neighbor saw smoke and flames coming from a detached garage in the 100 block of Laumer Avenue, located off Alum Rock Avenue. Firefighters who responded were met with flames coming out of every window and the garage door, according to Capt. Mary Gutierrez.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes.

The family living at the residence safely got out of the home, which was located about 10 feet away from the garage, Gutierrez said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation but Gutierrez said it appears to be an electrical fire.

At 3:39 a.m. Thursday, firefighters were called to a house near Greenleaf Lane and Yerba Buena Road and found a two-story house with heavy smoke out of the attic, according to fire Capt. Rob Brown. At 5:30 a.m., firefighters had the blaze under control.

The two-story house, which is an estimated 2,500 square feet, suffered about $250,000 in water, smoke and fire damage, Brown said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters responded to two house fires Wednesday. At about 11 a.m., a dryer that was left running when the family left the house likely caused a fire on Laswell Avenue, Brown said.

Firefighters responded to the house just after 11 a.m. and had the blaze under control in about 40 minutes. Most of the damage occurred near where the fire started.

The second fire was reported in the 2500 block of Sleepy Hollow Lane and may have been caused by oily rags that spontaneously combusted, Brown said.

The homeowners were doing renovations and left a bucket containing oily staining rags in the kitchen, Brown said.

The fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damage, with most of the fire damage occurring in the kitchen and general smoke damage affecting the rest of the house, he said.

The fire was under control by around 1:30 p.m., Brown said.
