Jan. 18--A fire killed a man early this morning as it swept through an Upper Township, Cape May County, home adjacent to an antique shop.

New Jersey State Police in the Woodbine barracks said by phone that the body of a male was discovered inside the large single-family home.

The property is owned by Fred Peech, according to tax records. Authorities believe the body to be that of Peech, but are waiting until an autopsy is conducted to make a positive idenfication.

Crews were notified of the blaze shortly after 1 a.m. Multiple fire companies battled the blaze much of the night, and police were still there as of 5:30 a.m.

The small antique business, known as Four Fields, or Peaches Antiques, was also situated on the property on the 1000 block of S. Shore Road (Route 9).
