A Pike County deputy was killed in a three vehicle crash on Monday night, according to WSAZ-TV.
Deputy James I. Thacker, 53, was on duty while he was heading towards Elkhorn City when the collision occurred around 9 p.m. on U.S. 460.
Troopers told the news station that the incident occurred after a driver of an SUV apparently lost control and crossed the center line before striking the deputy's cruiser. The SUV then struck a second vehicle.
Thacker was pronounced dead at the scene.
A person in one of the other vehicles was transported to Pikesville Medical Center but there was no update on their condition.
The crash is currently being investigated.
