Jan. 24--COLLINSVILLE -- The city will soon get a new fire chief only about a month after the last one was hired.

The City Council on Monday approved the hiring of Mark Emert, currently assistant fire chief in Affton.

Eric Hall, a firefighter in Des Peres, was sworn in as chief in December but only about a week later informed Collinsville officials he could not take the job due to unforeseen family events.

Mayor John Miller said Emert is a 25-year veteran of the Affton department and comes with a good list of qualifications.

"We're looking for good things from him," Miller said. Emert is expected to be sworn in as chief next week.
