Jan. 26--More than 2,000 gallons of fuel spilled Wednesday at Miami International Airport, and four people were taken to local hospitals after they were exposed to it, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
No flights were disrupted due to the leak, an airport spokeswoman said.
The spill happened shortly before 3 p.m. at the Commercial Jet hangar. The fuel leaked from an aircraft due to some type of mechanical issue, Fire Rescue said.
About 2,200 gallons leaked before it was stopped. Four people were exposed to the fuel and were taken by paramedics to two hospitals -- Hialeah Hospital and University of Miami Hospital -- for treatment.
The fuel was cleaned up in about three hours. It was turned over to environmental officials for proper disposal.
