HOLCOMB -- Holcomb City council members who met briefly Wednesday made a few unanimous changes to the city's volunteer fire department.

The council voted 5-0 to appoint a Holcomb resident, Diego Mancillas, as a new recruit firefighter, contingent upon completing a base line physical, according to Holcomb Fire Chief Bill Knight.

Knight told the council during Wednesday's meeting that Mancillas is a criminal justice degree graduate from Garden City Community College.

The council approved a rate of pay at $15 per call, meeting and training for Mancillas as part of its vote.

At the recommendation of the fire chief, the council also voted 5-0 to promote firefighters Danny Case and Justin Rogers to the position of lieutenant. Knight said both have been members of the department since 2008.

Their promotion comes with pay rate of $100 per month plus normal call and meeting pay, according to Knight.

Council President Tracy Davis presided over Wednesday's meeting. Holcomb Mayor Gary Newman was not present.

The council is scheduled to meet again at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at 200 N. Lynch St. in Holcomb.
