Jan. 26--DENTON -- Firefighters were still working to extinguish hot spots at a fire that destroyed a large building at Selwyn College Preparatory School Thursday afternoon.
No one was reported injured in the blaze.
According to the school's website, Selwyn school officials have canceled classes for the remainder of the week at the request of the fire department.
The fire was called in about 6:30 a.m. by motorists passing the school on nearby U.S. 380, a fire official said. The building that burned housed classrooms and administrative offices, said Brad Lahart, Denton fire department spokesman.
The fire was in one of the larger buildings on the preparatory school's 90-acre campus located in the 3300 block of West University Drive, Lahart said. What caused the fire is still under investigation, Lahart said.
"We tried to contain the fire to the building of origin," Lahart said. "It's a very large building and the fire had a huge head start on the fire crews."
