Two Injured in Illinois High Rise Fire

Two people were hospitalized after a fire broke out Sunday night in an apartment on the 51-floor in an Edgewater high rise.

Jan. 30--Two people were hospitalized after a fire broke out this evening in an apartment in an Edgewater high rise, officials said.

The fire was reported at about 8:20 p.m. this evening in the 51st floor of a 55-story high rise at the Park Tower, 5415 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago Fire Department officials said.

Firefighters called for an Emergency Medical Services Plan 1 response to the scene which calls for six ambulances to report to the scene as a precaution, officials said.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 8:37 p.m. which was contained to a single apartment, officials said.

Two people were removed from the building in fair-to-serious condition and taken to a Weiss Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation, officials said.

More than a hundred firefighters responded along with more than 30 pieces of firefighting equipment.
