A tanker truck rolled over Monday morning and unloaded more than 100 canisters of liquid oxygen across several lanes of I-94 at N. 25th St., in Milwaukee causing the eastbound lanes to be closed for about 31/3 hours, authorities said.
No one was injured in the accident, according to the Milwaukee County sheriff's office. The accident happened about 11:20 a.m., and the freeway reopened just before 3 p.m.
"A 46-year-old male driver tried to avoid traffic slowing ahead of him by switching lanes, causing the load on his truck to shift. He lost control of the truck, which struck the median wall and flipped onto its side," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
The cylinders spilled onto the roadway and some leaked liquid oxygen, which did not pose a danger to the public. The Milwaukee Fire Department's hazardous materials unit and Milwaukee police officers were called in to help. Traffic was forced to exit at N. 35th St.
