Feb. 05--One person was injured Saturday night when a fire of unknown origin damaged a semi-detached house in Kenhorst, officials said.

The fire at 947 Fern Ave. was reported by neighbors about 10:15 p.m., and there was fire on the first floor when firefighters arrived.

Initial reports indicated someone was trapped inside, but firefighters said everyone got out before they arrived.

A man who lives in the house suffered smoke inhalation and was taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital. His name and condition were unavailable.

Chief Roger Weidenheimer of the Kenhorst Fire Company said about 50 firefighters from four companies responded and had the bulk of the fire knocked down in about 20 minutes. The fire was placed under control 35 minutes after it was reported.

No firefighters were injured.

City police also responded. Firefighters used ladders to get to the second floor to search for people.

Weidenheimer said there was also fire damage in the basement. Residents of the adjoining house were evacuated.

The borough fire marshal was en route to investigate. No cause or damage estimate was available.
