Feb. 07--A young boy was injured in a house fire in north Houston Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

The small fire broke out a the home at 418 E. 43rd near Oxford about 9:05 a.m., according to the Houston Fire Department. It was extinguished about 10 minutes later.

Fire officials said a boy, whose name has not been released, was rushed to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center. Officials did not release details about the his possible injuries or condition, but said he was alert when he was found inside the house.

Stella Jordan, the 5-year-old's grandmother, said the family isn't certain exactly how the fire started. There may have been a space heater in the den that sparked flames and smoke, she said, but investigators are still trying to determined what caused the fire.

The child was trapped in the house and firefighters found him when they searched the home. His parents had refused to leave the home until the boy was found.

No other injuries were reported.

The boy's relatives were shaken by the incident, which Jordan called "devastating," but she said she was thankful that the damage wasn't worse.

Firefighters were dispatched to the home and found light smoke coming from the den, fire officials said. The fire appeared to be confined to a couch.
