Feb. 08--Three people were hospitalized, including two in critical condition, after escaping from a Jacksonville mobile home fire.

Just before 5 a.m., firefighters arriving a the doublewide in the 4300 block of Loys Drive saw flames 15 feet high coming from the north end of the mobile home, said spokesman Tom Francis of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Three adults who had escaped through a window had been asleep until they heard the fire, Francis said. A man and woman were taken to Shands Jacksonville in critical condition and a man was transported to Baptist Medical Center in stable condition.

A dog was found dead inside the structure once firefighters extinguished the fire.

Francis said another home 15 feet from the fire was not damaged. He said water tanker trucks had to be used because there were no hydrants nearby and that 6,000 gallons of water were needed to put out the fire. It was called under control in about 20 minutes.

No cause or starting point for the fire were determined this morning. Damage is estimated at $100,000.
