Feb. 09--An Aurora woman died Thursday from injuries sustained in a Wednesday morning fire.

The State Fire Marshall, investigating the case, did not release her name, but said she was in her 50s and that she suffered smoke inhalation and burns.

"The fire has been ruled accidental and is the result of the careless use of smoking materials," a news release said.

An off-duty Bainbridge firefighter who lives nearby and an Aurora police officer on patrol both tried to make entry to assist the injured woman. Both suffered smoke inhalation, and were treated and released, the Fire Marshal report said.

Smoke alarms were present and did activate, but the other two occupants in the home were alerted to the fire by the injured woman. The fire was contained to the victim and the victim's bed.
