Funeral services are being held Feb. 11 for a Utah 911 Center communications manager who died Tuesday a day after he fell ill while assisting police with a stand-off.
Jeff Dial, 56, experienced chest pains while facilitating communications for police during an incident on I-15 on Monday afternoon, St. George Assistant City Manager Marc Mortensen told reporters.
He was rushed to Dixie Regional Medical Center where he died Tuesday morning. The cause of death has not been determined, according to KCSG.
His death is a huge loss for the city. "He was Mr. 911. He did a superb job for the city and police department," Mortensen said. "He will be remembered as great man who did a lot of good to establish and improve emergency communications throughout the southern Utah region. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family as they deal with these difficult circumstances."
