INDIANAPOLIS
One person was seriously injured and about 20 people were displaced from their apartments in a fire early Saturday morning at an assisted-living apartment building on Indianapolis' west side.
Wayne Township firefighters were called to the Crestwood Village apartments near the intersection of Girls School Road and Rockville Road about 3:15 a.m.
Fire crews from Indianapolis, Avon, Decatur Township and Speedway also responded to the scene.
"One male resident was transported to Wishard Hospital in serious condition," said Wayne Township fire Division Chief Mike Pruitt. "We are treating minor health issues on scene."
The building has 24 units. Many residents were relocated to another building adjacent to the one that caught fire.
The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes and was contained to the unit where it started, Pruitt said.
Crews initially evacuated about 70 people from their homes. All but about 20 of them were allowed to return shortly after the fire was doused. Three more people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Investigators weren't immediately sure what sparked the blaze.
