Feb. 13--FARMINGTON -- A Farmington man was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque following a structure fire that killed two people early Sunday morning.
Cody Burch was listed in satisfactory condition Sunday night, a hospital spokesman said.
Dustin Davis, 21, and Audrey Dawes, 21, both were pronounced dead on the scene after Sheriff's deputies found them unconscious inside the residence on County Road 5582, sheriff's spokeswoman Beth Utley said.
The third man, 20-year-old Burch, was found outside the home. He was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center before he was airlifted to Albuquerque.
"Unfortunately the home was completely destroyed in the fire," San Juan County Firefighter Kevin Jones said in a prepared statement. "The cause of the fire was not immediately apparent and is still being investigated by the San Juan County Fire Investigator."
The home was fully engulfed in flames when sheriff's deputies arrived at about 4:38 a.m. Eleven San Juan County fire crews battled the blaze in the manufactured home for more than three hours. Four engines, a tanker, compressor, two rescue units, two medic units and a Bloomfield Fire tanker responded.
Burch was able to tell the responding deputies that there were two others inside the home.
Deputies attempted to go through the front door of the home but it would not open, Utley said.
The deputies used a shovel to take the door off the hinges and went inside where they immediately
located Dawes. They took her outside and performed CPR while additional deputies entered the home and found Davis.
He also was brought outside and deputies performed CPR.
