Feb. 15--Detroit firefighters rescued a man this morning from a burning apartment on the city's west side.
The man was semi-conscious when firefighters pulled him from his second-floor apartment about 8 a.m. at Park Plaza Apartments in the 23500 block of West Seven Mile, Detroit firefighter Anthony Watts said.
The man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a local hospital, Watts said. He is expected to recover.
Firefighters had the flames under control shortly after arriving on scene and contained the fire to the man's apartment, Watts said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but firefighters said careless smoking may have played a factor.
Felton McNeil, who lives in the building, credited firefighters with keeping the fire from spreading.
"They contained the fire in a matter of minutes," he said. "It could have been a lot worse than what it was."
