A firefighter with the Southern Stone County Fire Protection District is recovering after he was struck by a falling tree while battling a brush fire Monday night.
Firefighter Terry Coker was transported to Mercy Hospital-Springfield and is listed in stable condition, according to The Branson Tri-Lakes News.
Crews responded to the fire at Cow Creek Road and Nature Trail Road in Blue Eye around 6:15 p.m. and the first arriving truck found a rubbish pile with nearly an acre of brush.
The second truck at the scene found Coker unconscious after he was struck by the tree.
A medical helicopter was requested but was unable to fly due to the weather.
Fire Chief David Gyger visited Coker in the hospital following the incident and told the newspaper that he was doing well.
