One firefighter sustained an arm injury and the other firefighter injured a leg.

Two firefighters were injured today battling a three-alarm fire at an unoccupied rental home in the 1000 block of Marena Street in Elliott, assistant fire chief Thomas Cook said.

Both injuries were considered minor, Cook said, but one firefighter with an arm injury was taken to a hospital as a precaution. The other firefighter injured a leg, he said.

The fire was reported at 4:17 a.m. at a house sitting amid a tight group of homes near the West End-Elliott Overlook, Cook said. Three alarms were quickly called and firefighters managed to keep the blaze from spreading to adjacent homes, he said.

Owner Ross King Sr. Of Glenshaw told fire officials he had just signed a lease on the home and the tenant was to move in March 1, Cook said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
