GALVESTON, Texas -- Firefighters extinguished a blaze early Friday after it burned a storage tank containing 12,000 barrels of oil in Galveston.

The fire reportedly broke out after an explosion at a sulphur plant on Harborside Drive about 7 p.m. Thursday, police said. The flames were extinguished about 3 a.m. Friday, according to the Galveston Fire Department.

Fire officials said no injuries were reported. The tank was heavily damaged in the blaze.

City spokeswoman Alicia Cahill told the Associated Press that a worker was treated for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.

A shelter-in-place order for Texas A&M University at Galveston was lifted after two hours, and nearby traffic arteries and bridge to Pelican Island were opened by midnight, the Associated Press reported.
