A man suffered severe burns Sunday while attempting to contain a fire at a Victorville mobile home park, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to the Totem Pole Mobile Home Park, in the 12700 block of Mariposa Road, about 5 a.m. Upon arrival they found a single-wide mobile home completely engulfed in flames and spreading to neighboring mobile homes, according to a fire department news release.
An 11-year-old boy asleep inside the mobile home where the fire originated awoke to the smell of smoke. He looked outside and saw fire on the porch, then woke his father and another man sleeping in the home. All three escaped without injury, but the mobile home was completely destroyed in the blaze.
The boy's 54-year-old father suffered major burns while attempting to contain the blaze. He was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment, said Tracey Martinez, county fire spokeswoman.
Two neighboring mobile homes sustained moderate to severe damage.
Six people were displaced by the blaze. The American Red Cross arrived on scene to assist them in relocating, Martinez said.
Firefighters had the blaze contained in 35 minutes. Three vehicles were also destroyed in the fire, the cause of which remains under investigation.
