ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A man was trapped in his car for over 8 hours after hitting a deer late Tuesday night in the 28000 block of 28th Avenue.

A 2000 4-door Oldsmobile crashed around 11 p.m. Tuesday, resting about 60 feet off the road. The car rolled over laying on the drivers side in about a foot of water.

38-year-old Robert Chamberlain was trapped inside.

It wasn't until the next morning that emergency crews became aware of the incident. By the time they arrived, Chamberlain was pleading with crews to get him out of the car.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free him from the car.

Chamberlain suffered severe hypothermia, frost bite, bumps, bruises and a broken leg.

Chamberlain says he lost control after a deer ran into his car. The car crossed the center line leaving the road air-born over a river. Finally, the car landed on an embankment and overturned in a heavily wooded wet area.

According to Chamberlain, only a few cars traveled the road overnight and no one noticed his crash.

Chamberlain was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for careless driving for speeding.
