March 01--FORT WORTH -- One woman was transported early Thursday to a hospital for undetermined reasons after a small fire at an apartment complex for senior citizens, a fire official said.
The Fort Worth Fire Department answered the call around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, said Lt. Ricardo Neaves, fire department spokesman. Dozens of residents of Normandale Place, a two-story apartment complex that advertises as a retirement community, were evacuated as a precaution.
The resident of the apartment of origin was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and was subsequently transported to the hospital for undetermined causes, Neaves said. Firefighters discovered that a maintenance person or resident used a portable fire extinguisher on the fire and firefighters used two additional extinguishers to put out the fire.
The fire was determined to be accidental and the damage estimate was undetermined. the apartment of origin sustained smoke damage and smoke damage in the rest of the building was minor, Neaves said.
